Adult Acting Workshops for 2019
Introduction to Improv (four classes with one performance) $120 +GST
Wednesdays, 7:00-9:00PM – July 31, August 7, 14, 28; Saturday, 2:00-4:00PM August 17
This class is for those who have always wanted to try improv or want more experience with improvisation. Each class will centre on honing a laser-like focus on stage, whilst teaching complicated theatre conventions through theatrical games. A final performance for friends and family would be offered on the Saturday following class 4. Audience participation would be encouraged.
Audition Essentials for Theatre (one day workshop) $75 +GST
Saturdays, 9:00AM-5:00PM – July 20, September 7
This workshop is for those who have never auditioned to those who have auditioned numerous times. The first half of the day will focus on working with scripts and how to feel comfortable and confident with cold reading. The second half of the day will be spent on auditioning with a memorized monologue. Participants can do a monologue of their choice or can request a pre-selected one prior to the class. These monologues should be memorized. In addition, a portion of the class time will be spent looking at different types of resumes.
Scene Study Intensive (one half day plus two evening classes) $120 +GST
Saturday, 1:00-4:00PM- August 19, Mondays 7:00-9:00PM – August 12, 19
This class is for those who want to delve into scene studies. This is for both the novice and the more advanced actor and tailored coaching for the scenes will be based on the experience level of the participants.
Acting Essentials (Level 1) (six classes with monologue performance) $175 +GST
Wednesdays, 7:00-9:00PM – September 11, 18, 25, October 2, 9; Saturday, 2:00-4:00PM October 12
Have you ever wanted to learn about theatre or have been on stage in any capacity with no formal training? This class is for you! This six-class series will offer the basics of theatre including culture and language, as well as working with improv and introductory scene inquiry. This class would consist of tactic/objective actor training, and would tie in Viola Spolin improv and space object competency to make a unified process for engaging with a script or show. Included with this lesson would be a discourse on theatre etiquette and culture. Participants will have the opportunity to perform a monologue with audience.
Acting Essentials (Level 2) (six classes with monologue performance) $195 +GST
Wednesdays, 7:00–9:00PM – October 30, November 6, 13, 20, 27, December 4; Saturday, 2:00-4:00PM November 30
So you have the foundations of theatre and have taken Acting Essentials (Level 1). What’s next? The Level 2 class focuses on scene study with side coaching throughout the class. The last class will be a presentation of the work done throughout the course. Level 2 consists of putting the aforementioned skills to work, and develop them through a predetermined scene study. At the end of the course, participants will present their scenes for each other and offer feedback for each other. Participants will also have the opportunity to perform the scene to an audience.

Richard Boness is an alum of the University of Alberta, Augustana acting program. He graduated with a degree in Drama, specializing in improv and movement for theatre. For a time he administered and directed for a student led production company, which focused on teaching young performers how to engage professionally with venues and sponsors. He has acted in and directed countless productions for both public and private organizations. Richard endeavors to bring focus and specificity to his projects.
Tia Niedjalski has been passionate about the arts, in particular theatre, for over 25 years. Her love of acting took her to New York right out of high school where she won an outstanding achievement in a comedy award. Since then she has taught various acting classes and has been a part of numerous productions in both acting and directing rolls. She likes to encourage novice and seasoned actors to step out of their comfort zone and try new things while more importantly having fun.
